I have attended every volleyball game at Chiddix Junior High School for the last 1½ years. Never have I attended a game where the National Anthem was not sung by a student of CJHS. They do a wonderful job and the teams unfailingly show proper respect while the Anthem is performed - often better than adults in the audience.

If the Anthem was not performed at the eighth grade tournament as Mr. Bauer states, (“Schools must show pride, patriotism,” YourViews, Feb. 12), it was certainly an aberration. On that date, I was in Champaign watching the seventh-grade team win a tournament and place three team members on the “All Tournament Team.” Perhaps Mr. Bauer was not present when the Anthem was performed, since that always happens just prior to the first match.

I cannot recall any volleyball tournament that I have attended in the last several years, whether home or away, where the National Anthem was not performed. I believe that patriotism is indeed alive and well in our community.
