As a retired professional who spends a great deal of time associating with and helping senior citizens and low-income residents of McLean County, I wish to register the strongest possible protest over the (McLean) County Board's action in raising the pay of our public defender from $99,000 per year to $139,000.
Can the poor public defender live on that, or should we take up a countywide collection for him or her?
Until recently, the president of the United States made only $200,000 per year, and he has the whole world in his hands.
The uncalled for action by the County Board only verifies what we working people have felt for many years - politicians really do not care about the middle- or lower-class residents, and they quickly forget who voted them into office. They abuse the power we invest in them.
I sincerely hope all the fine readers of the Pantagraph will note and remember the names of the County Board members who once again ignored the financial problems most of our citizens face daily, and protest to them individually and refuse to vote for them.
Those who voted for the raise are P.A. Berglund, Diane Bostic, Rick Dean, Ann Harding, Duane Moss, Bob Nuckolls, Sondra O'Connor, Matt Sorenson, Dave Selzer and Cathy Ahart. Let's clean house and vote all of them out of office.
