Perhaps we should send Unit 5 Superintendent Alan Chapman back to preschool for a while for even entertaining the idea of publicly funded preschool. Mr. Chapman's statement in The Pantagraph, (“Educators question Blagojevich's preschool plan,” Page A5, Feb. 16) leads me to believe he feels our current governor's idea has merit if the funding is available.
News bulletin for Mr. Chapman: In addition to the taxes - funding - I currently pay, I'm also paying -funding -for field trips for my kids who are in elementary school. Where does he think the funding -funding - will come from? As an aside to my question, here's a suggested headline should The Pantagraph run this story again in the near future: “Governor Blagojevich announces plans for free child care for Chicagoland in time for 2006 elections.”
