I have lived my whole life in Bloomington-Normal and the saddest day for me was learning the Maxwell Park summer theater had been burned down due to arson. The second saddest day was when I realized that it had not been rebuilt. The theater gave students from all over Central Illinois the opportunity to be a part of something special, the ability to express themselves in a safe and fun way.

It is a shame that so much money is invested in sports complexes and hotels but the one thing we had that gave a little culture to our youth has gone by the wayside. I have heard that there is still a program going on at the old Scottish Rite Temple (the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts), but it can't compare to an evening under the stars.
