My husband and I just returned from spending several weeks in Florida, where there has been a smoking ban in restaurants for the past three to four years.
We were in numerous restaurants during our stay and thoroughly enjoyed the smoke-free environment. Smokers wait to smoke until they leave the premises; non-smokers love the clean air as well as relegation of the need for smoking or non-smoking sections. Owners appreciate not having burns in the carpet and furniture, no more stained walls or smoke-filled curtains and upholstery.
Remember when Bloomington-Normal business offices banned smoking in their buildings? It was instituted because it was the right thing to do.
Come on Bloomington-Normal, do the right thing. We could be trendsetters for the state of Illinois. A smoking ban is not going to keep people away, rather the opposite will occur.
Change is hard but it's worth the hassle.
