In your June 3 issue, Kurt Erickson pointed out the mindset of our Illinois legislators ("Legislative session goes beyond embarrassing," Viewpoint, Page C1).
They have ignored the well-being of their constituents by not addressing the budget, high electric rates and other public needs in regulation time. Instead, they choose to concentrate on a pay raise for themselves, and disgustingly attach it to a bill to fund construction for 24 school districts, so it would pass. This could have been accomplished with a separate bill.
Those legislators who voted against the pay raise should be commended. And since they have gone into "overtime," we understand that means overtime pay and benefits while they are "working" to solve the public's problems.
No extra taxes would be needed if the graft is eliminated: three state workers watching two others dig a hole in a street, the same for road construction, snow plows out when there is no threat of an impending storm.
There are many more examples the public can witness or themselves.
We need more Pantagraph articles to show us just what is really going on in Springfield, at our expense.
