I am a concerned community member writing to you on behalf of several people who have become alarmed at the knowledge of a potential ending of the Bloomington-Normal Public Transit System Teal J bus route.
I am a single mother with no vehicle, and this particular bus is the only one that goes to my job, located across from the airport. From where I live, if there were no bus to go to my job, I would be faced with paying around $30 a day in cab fees to go to and from work.
Some may suggest ride with a co-worker, and, yes, that is also an option, when available. But there are not always times when a co-worker is available. Only with this bus can I be guaranteed to get to and from work without fail, even in bad weather.
I am asking for help from not only the people who patronize the bus services but also for help from the community at large. All of us are trying to survive out here.
There will be a meeting held by the transit board at a date to be announced. I am asking for everyone who can to please come out and show their support.
Help keep the Teal J running for those of us who need that bus to keep our jobs and maintain our survival for ourselves and all those we care for.
