In regards to The Pantagraph's Feb. 15 article on the "Big Foot" sightings in Funks Grove, I must say that I am both confused and rather disappointed in the story. First and foremost, if Mr. Vielhak and his son had seen the precarious being at least six times, then why are there no pictures for proof?
I would think after the first sighting a camera would be a must-have for proof of documentation. Secondly, did the "beast" change height because one was reported being almost 7 feet tall and the other almost 9 feet tall? Thirdly, why haven't any members of the Funk family seen this mystical creature? After all, haven't they lived there for over 150 years? Fourthly, I am aware that there is sap-collecting going on in the woods, as it is maple sirup season, so why haven't these workers of the grove seen this creature? Is it in hibernation? Perhaps, it is one of the workers!
I do not consider myself an extreme skeptic but I do wonder about the credibility of this story. I find it rather odd that this "Big Foot" phenomenon has become a national interest when there seems to be so many holes and coincidental evidence. For example, hunters frequently use "growling" male deer calls in the grove during hunting season and many hunters dress in rather strange attire to conceal them from the eyes of their prey. On a final note, I would like to see a picture sometime of this creature; after all, it is in my back yard! I keep telling my brothers, who are almost 6-feet-7 to stop scaring the neighbors!
