On Feb. 9, I read in The Pantagraph that President Bush wants to eliminate the $255 lump-sum death benefit from Social Security. Also, to cut off monthly survivor benefits to 16- and 17-year-old high school dropouts.
I wonder if some day Congress will impeach him. He is a humbug, not a humdinger. Readers, get out your dictionary. Humbug means to deceive or mislead. Humdinger means a striking or extraordinary person.
I am a registered Independent voter, have been all my life.
On Feb. 12, Molly Ivins' column was entitled, “Some has to have the guts to tell Bush `No'.” How true! In more ways than one. Molly stated we are living with the consequences of the inability to say no to the president's war of choice with Iraq. And that he has the right to ignore FISA's prohibition of government intrusion on the private communications of Americans without a court order … and his repeated statements that he intends to go right on doing it.
Also, there are small ads in The Pantagraph asking people to write a letter to the editor. I have written letters to the editor of The Pantagraph since 1994. My first letter was, “Bring back good comics,” on Jan. 9, 1994.
