Eureka auxiliary event postponed
EUREKA - The Eureka Community Hospital service auxiliary's 50th anniversary open house, scheduled for Thursday, has been postponed.
A new date will be announced.
Sewer district set for South Streator
SOUTH STREATOR - A sewer district has been established for South Streator residents of Reading Township in anticipation of a $13 million system that will replace dumping sewage into mines.
The state Environmental Protection Agency wants Streator to stop using coal shafts for sewage since it can contaminate ground water and the Vermilion River. The EPA is giving a $5 million grant to the project.
Investigators eye theft from school
SOUTH STREATOR - Police and school workers are investigating how and how much money was taken from Woodland School District.
The shortage was discovered last week.
Superintendent Doug Foster said the district is trying to pinpoint the loss "and after that we'll call in the auditors to verify that."
The Livingston County State's Attorney office has received the preliminary report; no arrests have been authorized.
Memorial Day services planned
DELAVAN - Memorial Day services will begin at 11 a.m. May 25 at Delavan Armory. The Delavan-Green Valley American Legion Post 382 will serve breakfast from 6 to 10 a.m.
Ceremonies will be at 9 a.m. at Green Valley Cemetery, 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Cemetery and 9:45 a.m. at Prairie Rest Cemetery. Avenue of Flags will be displayed at the cemeteries and on Main Street, weather permitting.
