A band of strong to severe thunderstorms rolled through Central Illinois late Thursday night. Thunderstorms hit the Twin Cities about 11 p.m., and the severe weather was expected to pass by 4 a.m. today.
In Normal, 1,620 of AmerenIP's 16,831 customers were reported without power at midnight, according to the utility's Web site. In Lincoln, 90 of 8,521 AmerenIP customers were without power.
The storms were expected to produce damaging wind gusts in excess of 60 mph, hail, very heavy rain and frequent lightning, according to the National Weather Service at Lincoln.
In Normal, the intersection of Fell Avenue and School Street was flooded, and traffic lights were out in various locations, including along College and Fell avenues and Linden Street, Normal police said.
Bloomington police reported the intersection of Clearwater Avenue and Veterans Parkway was flooded a little before midnight.
The Pantagraph recorded 0.8 of an inch of rain by midnight.
