BLOOMINGTON — Military investigators determined a National Guard soldier from Central Illinois died of a single gunshot wound to the chest, and no foul play is suspected.

Documents from the U.S. Army's Criminal Investigation Command, received through a Freedom of Information Act request, say the body of First Lt. Debra Banaszak, 35, a member of the Missouri National Guard, was found inside a tracked wheel vehicle early Oct. 28, 2005, at Camp Victory, Kuwait.

Banaszak's family is from the Bloomington area, and she last lived in Sullivan, about an hour south of Decatur.

She previously worked as a police officer in Sullivan and a sheriff's deputy in St. Charles, Mo.
