PEORIA -- The live-in girlfriend of a Peoria man who was shot to death in 2009 has entered a guilty plea to murder charges.
Nora Jean Patton was to go on trial in the death of 49-year-old Johnny Tyler. However, she entered a guilty plea Monday in return for a 28-year prison sentence. Had she been convicted at trial, she faced up to 60 years behind bars.
The 48-year-old Patton told police she found Tyler's body when she returned home from a night of partying. Police did not initially find a weapon at the scene, and there were no signs of forced entry to, or items missing from the home.
Patton did not admit to the murder, but told Circuit Judge Steve Kouri she wanted to get the matter over with.
