Snow shovels scraping driveways and sidewalks should be a fairly common sight this morning after the season's first significant winter storm arrived Thursday.
With snowfall expected to be anywhere from 4 to 7 inches, health officials urge residents to be careful when shoveling. Here are some tips:
w Don't shovel unless you are in good physical condition. Cold weather, even without physical exertion, puts an extra strain on your heart.
w Don't try to do the entire job at once. Rest frequently and pace yourself.

w If you experience chest or arm pain or numbness, stop immediately and go indoors.
w Use a proper snow shovel and lift with your leg muscles, not your back.
w Don't smoke or drink alcoholic beverages while shoveling.
