ST. CHARLES -- Authorities say a car-dealership repo man is being held in the Kane County Jail for allegedly trying to trick police into doing his job for him.

East Dundee Police Detective Michael Seyller said Monday that 47-year-old William Jessup of Addison was arrested last week after he tried to dupe police into tracking down a vehicle he was trying to repossess.

Seyller says Jessup has been charged with filing a false police report, falsely reporting a vehicle theft and phone harassment.

Jessup reportedly told police last week that a vehicle he had repossessed had been stolen, possibly by its owners.

A day later, a Carpentersville police officer spotted the vehicle and pulled it over. But after talking with the owner, police learned that Jessup had never repossessed the vehicle.
