Barbara Helen Alvey, 82, of LeRoy, passed away at 10:43 a.m. Tuesday (Nov. 6, 2018) at LeRoy Manor.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Rosary service will be at 4:30 p.m. with visitation following from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, LeRoy. Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary Church, Downs. Inurnment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to McLean County Humane Society.
Barbara was born Aug. 16, 1936, in Princeton, to James R. and Celia S. Piasyk Herron. She married James Roger Alvey May 21, 1960, in Wyanet. He survives.
Surviving are two sons, Brian Alvey, Gridley, and Bruce (Laurie) Alvey, Bloomington; two daughters, Lisa (Bill) Toohill, LeRoy, and Lori (Larry) Baker, Colfax; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Robert Herron; and daughter-in-law, Pam Alvey.
Barbara was a United States Navy veteran. She was a member of St. Mary Church in Downs and Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. She owned and operated Alvey's Market in Gridley from 1975 to 1983, and then proceeded to work in the grocery business for many years until retirement in 2001.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and devoted friend who will be deeply missed.
