HUDSON — Charles D. “Chuck” Payton, age 87, of Hudson, passed away at 8 a.m. Sunday (Sept. 8, 2019) at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.
His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hudson United Methodist Church, Hudson. The Rev. Dr. Curt D. Keller will be officiating. Burial will be at Hudson Township Cemetery, Hudson, with military rites accorded by the Bloomington-Normal American Legion Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Hudson United Methodist Church, Hudson. The family suggests memorials be made to Hudson United Methodist Church, Hudson, or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Arrangements are being handled by Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington.
Chuck was born Feb. 9, 1932, in Leitchfield, Ky., the son of Clarence and Iva Phelps Payton. He married Mary L. Ward on July 28, 1951, in Sibley. She survives.

Also surviving are his three children, Chuck L. (Deb) Payton, Hudson; Terry R. (Janice Yuhas) Payton, Lithia, Fla.; Debbie P. (Shannon) Kinsella, Towanda; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ruby Summers and Winnie Vaughn; and one grandson.
Chuck was a member of Hudson United Methodist Church, Hudson. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was a member of the Teamsters in Joliet for 33 years. He had worked for Nussbaum Trucking for 32½ years as a truck driver. He had worked part-time at Williams National Lease and CIT as a truck driver. He was a member of the Bloomington Moose Lodge and American Legion, Lexington. Chuck loved to play bluegrass music. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and great great-grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew him.
