Darlene Elizabeth Schall, 98, of Roberts, passed away Jan. 30, 2019, at the Piper City Rehab & Living Center.
She was born Jan. 20, 1921, in Piper City, the daughter of Earl and Leah Kurtenbach Hummel. She married Vernon Joseph Schall on Nov. 5, 1941, in Piper City, and he preceded her in death Dec. 21, 1996. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Durwood and Jimmy; one sister, Elvera Eppelheimer; one daughter-in-law, Judy Schall; and one granddaughter, Ruth Ann Schall.
She is survived by two sons, Norman Schall, Melvin, and Michael (Suzanne) Schall, Cullom; one daughter, Marlene (Robin) Strufe, Rocky Mount, N.C.; eight grandchildren, Joseph (Darla) Schall, Melanie (Jerry) Stokes, Renee (Lee) Rucks, Erica (Rick) Bottoms, Scott (Lori) Strufe, John Schall, Rachel Schall and Daniel (Laura) Schall; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Raymond (Darlene) Hummel, Gilman.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Roberts and a former CCW member. She graduated from Piper City High School and was a homemaker and farm wife for over 50 years. Darlene enjoyed playing cards and going to basketball games. She was an avid Cubs fan.
A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Piper City. The Rev. Marek Herbut will officiate. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Piper City. Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Knapp-Redenius Funeral Home, Gilman. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
