Etta M. Veal, 80, of Normal, passed away at 6:20 p.m. Jan. 21, 2019, at her home.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at City of Refuge Ministries, Bloomington, with Pastor William Bennett officiating and Pastor Toby Carlos eulogizing. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home, Bloomington, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Bloomington. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Etta was born May 18, 1938, in Cleveland, Miss., a daughter to Andrew and Rosetta Cooperwood Walker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sol Veal.
Surviving are her children, Dyvonne Gunn, Kentucky; Patricia Thompson, Bloomington; Oscar Thompson, Bloomington; Cynthia (Anthony) Williams, Normal; and Kimberly Veal, Bloomington; grandchildren, Lashawn Thompson, Latoya Thompson, Charles (Carmelita) Shively Jr., Chranda Shively, Lisa Thompson, Reginald Shively, Laverne Thompson, Melody (Brandon) Motley, Latricia Thompson, Jazzman (Rachel) Thompson, Marcus Thompson, Tabyrus Thompson and Nikaela Thompson; 24 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; six sisters, Georgia Haywood, Viola Davis, Teola Briggs, Evelyn (Mitchell) Mitchell, Mildred Seals, Myranne (Melvin) Cooper; two brothers, Jeremiah Walker and Maurice Walker; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister and four brothers.
Etta was an advocate for her community.
She will be missed greatly by all those who knew her.
