NORMAL — Gena Lee Guttschow, of Normal, died Friday (Nov. 29, 2019) at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal. She was 55 years old.

Gena was born on March 20, 1964, in Oak Park, to Richard and Janet Guttschow. From a young age, she was fascinated by the sciences and excelled in school. After graduation from University High School, she attended Augustana College in Rock Island. She later graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic, Davenport, Iowa, with doctor of chiropractic (D.C.) and master of science in anatomy degrees. Following clinical chiropractic practice, Gena returned to the University of Minnesota to receive a Ph.D. in science education. Gena taught anatomy at Minneapolis Community and Technical College.
Gena is survived by her brother, Rich (Suzanne) Guttschow, Normal; nieces, Lauren and Logan Guttschow, Normal; and her uncle, Gene (Wanda) Rohlfs, Lincoln. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Richard and Janet Guttschow, Normal.
At Gena's request, her body will be donated for the advancement of science. A celebration of life open house will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 1510 N. Main St., Normal.
