Janet D. Klinzing, 88, of Bloomington, passed away Sunday (June 10, 2018) at Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, Normal.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, with the Rev. Christine McNeal officiating. Private family interment will be in the columbarium at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Bloomington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Westminster Village Foundation.
She was born Oct. 19, 1929, in Queens, New York City, a daughter of George and Wilhemina Smith. She married Roy Klinzing, her loving husband of 63 years, on April 30, 1955 in Bellaire, Long Island. He survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Steven (Lori) Klinzing, Port Jefferson, N.Y.; Mark (Kelli) Klinzing, Bloomington; Gregg (Annette) Klinzing, Normal; and Scott (Julia) Klinzing, Bloomington; eight grandchildren, Kelsey, Brent, Kristine (Aaron) Kinnebrew, Dan, Aly, Connor, Ashley and Caroline; and one great-grandson, Cameron Kinnebrew.
She was preceded in death by a brother, George Smith.
Janet graduated from Katherine Gibbs College in 1952, and attended Queens College where she was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She was voted most personable during her senior year in high school. Janet worked as an administrative assistant for an insurance company in New York City. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and loved entertaining, cooking and being around people, especially her family.
