WAPELLA — Joan M. Winters, 70, of Wapella, died at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 4, 2019) at Warner Hospital and Health Services, Clinton.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the memorial home. The Rev. Glenn Corbly will officiate.
Joan was born Dec. 27, 1948, in Streator, to Gene and Marna Cunningham Winters. She is survived by three sisters, Jill (Curt) Upton, East Hartford, Conn.; Nancy (Kirk) Boulware, Normal; Corrie Winters, Normal; one brother, Frank Darren (Amy) Winters, Bloomington; her best friend, Bonnie Corbly, Wapella; and her two “fur babies,” Mattie and Shelby.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Steven, Lon and Keith Eugene, and one sister, Janet Chaddick.

Joan was raised in the Methodist faith and attended Heyworth United Methodist Church. She was a teacher in the Urbana School District prior to working for Illinois State University for more than 20 years as a library operations assistant. After she retired in 2004 she worked for 10 years in the customer call center at State Farm. She also farmed in the Wapella area for 32 years with her best friend Bonnie Corbly. Joan enjoyed riding motorcycles for many years, traveling throughout the country. She also enjoyed driving the John Deere gator around the farm.
Memorial contributions may be made to Community Cancer Center on Vernon Avenue in Normal or to the humane society.
