John Joseph “Jack” Halihan Jr. was born May 3, 1942, and passed away Monday (Feb. 11, 2019) at Heritage Health, Normal.
Jack had one sister Sherrilyn Piercy, Normal. Jack married Janice Haley on June 22, 1977. She survives. They had five children, four boys and one girl, John (Lorie) Halihan, Pacific, Mo.; Kelly (John) Underhill, Saybrook; Pat (Carol) Halihan, Hudson; Sean (Sara) Halihan, Bloomington; and youngest son, Dennis Halihan, who preceded him in death. Jack had 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Jack worked at Caterpillar in Morton, retiring after 36 years as a crane operator. Jack also served in the United States Marine Corps, serving his country. He loved going to sporting events as he was an avid baseball and college basketball fan. He lived his life to the fullest by making people laugh and being his ornery self. He was a devoted Christian and served as a deacon at First Baptist Church in Morton. Jack did not know a stranger and befriended anyone who crossed his path.
His children would all say, "we couldn't have asked to be raised by a better father." He will be missed and cherished dearly in all our hearts, until we meet again.
Donations in remembrance of Jack may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or The International 22Q11.2 Foundation.
