Kenneth W. “Kenney” Barling, 91, of Bloomington, passed away at 10:05 a.m. Tuesday (Feb. 5, 2019) at Heritage Health, Bloomington.
His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington, with military rites accorded by the Bloomington-Normal American Legion Honor Guard. Father David Halt will officiate. Entombment will be at Park Hill Mausoleum, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday at Calvert & Metzler Memorial Home, Bloomington.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to St. Matthews Episcopal Church, Bloomington, or the Community Cancer Center, Normal.
Kenney was born Feb. 19, 1927, in Bloomington, the son of Fred and Lottie Sayers Barling. He married Carolyn Rae Claudon on May 29, 1949, in Bloomington. She passed away June 19, 2013.
Surviving are his three children, Marsha (Terry) Anderson, Bloomington; David (Janey) Barling, Bloomington; Alan (Caryl) Barling, Pontiac; eight grandchildren, Matt (Mary) Anderson, Molly Walls, Jeffrey Barling, Katie (Jeff) Gerald, Scott (Jenny) Lindsey, Carrie Lindsey, Audra (Erik) Anderson, Kate (Justin) Nix; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Kenney was preceded in death by his parents.
Kenney served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He owned and operated Kenney's Delivery Service, Bloomington, for many years until he retired. Kenney was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church, Bloomington. He was a member of the Bloomington Normal Bowling Association Hall of Fame. Kenney was an avid Cubs fan. He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially his grandchildren. He will be missed by all who knew him.
