Kermit F. Schnitker, 83, of Stanford, passed away at 3:05 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 6, 2019) at Hopedale Nursing Home.
He was born Oct. 25, 1935, in Stanford, to Fred and Nora Franke Schnitker. He married Carmen I. Arndt on Feb. 14, 1965, in Osman, and she passed away on March 10, 2013.
Surviving are one son, Herb (Beth) Schnitker, Middletown, Mo.; two daughters, Tania (Kevin) Walter, Danvers, and Nicole Barfield, Emden; four grandchildren, Larna Schnitker, Lucy Schnitker, Hope Walter and Noelle Walter.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He served in the United States Army as a corporal in the gyroscope program of the 8th Infantry Division. Kermit was a graduate of Stanford High School. He was a lifelong farmer and carpenter.
He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Danvers where he served in various capacities. He was a board member for the Stanford Grain Elevator and Patrons Mutual. Kermit was a seed salesman for 40 years and was a certified crop adviser.
Kermit was an avid reader and loved playing card games.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Zion Lutheran Church, Danvers. Pastor Frank Zimmerman will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday also at the church and one hour before the service on Sunday. Burial will be at Park Lawn Cemetery, Danvers, with military honors. Davis-Oswald Funeral Home, Hopedale, is handling the arrangements. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or Illinois School for the Visually Impaired in Jacksonville.
