NORMAL — Lois Read, 96, of Normal, passed away at 6:30 a.m. Monday (Sept. 9, 2019) at McLean County Nursing Home, Normal.
A private family graveside service will be held at Park Hill Cemetery, Bloomington. Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Memorials may be directed to Second Presbyterian Church or Bloomington High School Athletics.
Lois was born Nov. 16, 1922, in Chicago, the daughter of Campbell and Louisa Gleichman Marvin. She married Richard Johnson “Dick” Read on March 10, 1945, in Chicago. He died on April 6, 2013.
Survivors include four children, Barbara (Bruder) Read-Stapleton, Seattle, Wash.; Bill (Donna) Read, Normal; Patti (Bob) Smith, Normal; and Peter Johnson Read, Bloomington; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Lois graduated from Hirsch High School in Chicago. She attended Illinois Wesleyan University where she was a member of Kappa Delta sorority and served the alumni association with leadership and dedication. Lois worked in the book department at W.B. Read and Co. and volunteered at Brokaw Hospital for many years. Most importantly, she hosted family dinners, always baking her famous cookies, cakes and pies.
Lois was always active and swam at Angler's, Lakeside and the YMCA, as well as playing tennis, golf, bridge and skiing in Colorado.
