BLOOMINGTON — Marvin Daniel “Dan” Burns, 83, of Bloomington, passed away at 1:20 p.m. Friday (May 3, 2019) at Meadows Mennonite Nursing Home, Chenoa.
Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Beck Memorial Home, Bloomington. His graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Bloomington, with the Rev. Todd Harrison officiating. Military rites will be accorded at the cemetery by the Bloomington-Normal American Legion Honor Guard. The family suggests memorials be made to Bible Baptist Church, 804 Four Seasons Road, Bloomington.
Dan was born Oct. 18, 1935, in Bloomington, the son of Marvin W. and Vera Scranton Burns. He married Virginia J. Summers on July 7, 1956, in Bloomington. She survives.
Also surviving are his six children, Tony Burns, Normal; Carol (Kenneth) Wilson, Waynesville; Laura (Mike) Miller, LeRoy; Robin (Andre) Perry, Bloomington; Michael Burns, Bloomington; Cheryl Christo, Bay St. Louis, Miss.; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one brother, Gerald Bicknell, Missouri; four sisters, Beverly Vandervort and Marilyn Long, both of Oswego; Janeva (Tony) Campbell, South Carolina; and Delores (Randy) Hurley, Lincoln.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Steven Burns; one granddaughter; one sister, Joanna Scearce; and one brother, Alex Girdler.
Dan worked at the Eureka Williams Co., Bloomington, for 42 years and he owned and operated Burns Landscaping for 30 years. Dan served in the U.S. Army in 1953 and was a 32nd degree Mason. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and old cars.
