Melvin Roger Hayes, 75, of Brentwood, Tenn., born Oct. 1, 1942, passed away peacefully Friday (Feb. 8, 2019) with his family by his side in Nashville, Tenn.
Born and raised in Danvers, Roger had fond memories of his friends and family from his childhood and was always ready to share a Danvers story. He graduated from Illinois Wesleyan in 1965, where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta, followed by service in the U.S. Navy, followed by work at Ford Motor Co., Omaha, Neb.
Roger and family then moved to Brentwood, Tenn., where he was employed by Atlantic Envelope Co. and Pinnacle Business Partners for a combined 30 years.
Roger was enjoying a relaxing retirement working in his yard and garden. He always had time for his family who affectionately called him Papa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Marilyn Hayes, and sister-in-law Rachel Bunting (David).
He is survived by his wife, Susan Laubaugh Hayes; two daughters, Natalie Norris Torbett and Heather Norris Bracey; Matthew Moak (Shelley), St. Louis; sisters, Mareta Walker, Lubbock, Texas, and Holly Parsons (Percy), Abilene, Texas; sister-in-law, Rebecca Greene (Ken), Durand; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and a host of nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Roger's life will be determined at a later date. Memorials can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Tennessee Baptist Children's Home in his honor.
