NORMAL — Robert Dean Deibert, 83, of Normal, passed away Wednesday (Aug. 7, 2019) at OSF HealthCare St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at East Lawn Funeral Home, 1102 Airport Road, Bloomington.
Robert was born Sept. 27, 1935, in Jacksonville, to Kenneth Dean and Sadie Irene Walker Deibert. He married Patricia Taylor on June 1, 1958, in Bloomington.
Robert retired in 1991 after 32 years as the planning engineer for GTE. During his retirement years, he worked for Ironwood Golf Course for 20-plus years and White Tours.
Robert served his country in the U.S. Naval Reserves for eight years, obtaining an honorable discharge. He was a founding member of the Corn Belt Carving Club; served as treasurer for the Young Mens' Club and was a Scout master for 25 years for the Boy Scouts of America Troops 17 and 45.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Patricia; two daughters, Lori (Kim) Ekena, Forsyth, and Lisa (John) Long, Normal; four grandchildren, Zachary (Emily) Long, Taylor Ekena, Mackenzie (Andrew) Mills and Brandon Long; three great-grandchildren, Kylie Long, Atlee Mills and Parker Mills.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Louise Hicks and Dorothy Deibert.
