It’s rare these days not to see an article focused on either racism or immigration in the daily news. Acts of racism are particularly reported if a white person or group is at fault. Some of the articles imply that little progress has really been made over the years relative to equal opportunity and race relations in America.

Immigration reports also tend to take on a negative tone. Some pieces lament the poor treatment displayed by border security, in part due to the practice of separating illegal immigrant parents and children crossing our southern border. As far as I know these reports are circulated worldwide.

I’m not saying we have a biased media, but might it be that the more we see and read about these subjects, the less we will appreciate the wonderful economy we are experiencing now, the massive job growth, the accelerated consumer confidence, and all of the other good things now happening in our great country.

If you think about it. if we are really such a racist and indifferent nation, why are so many people from diverse ethnic backgrounds from all around the globe wanting to immigrate to the U.S., legal or otherwise? Is it possible that foreigners still view America as a land of opportunity with freedom of choice, despite the bad press? If so, as proud Americans, shouldn’t we also view our country that way?
