I've voted Republican all my life, even when as a LGBT citizen, doing so clearly went against my own self-interest. Iin 2016 I wrote-in Barry Goldwater.)
I don't know who first said, "I didn't leave the Republican party; the Republican party left me," but it's been upstanding morality/honor/character that's kept me a Republican all these years, and today more than ever before I can identify with that unfortunate sentiment.
My fondness for the nostalgia of Lincoln, Roosevelt, Eisenhower, Reagan, both Bushs, and senators Goldwater, McCain and Flake will keep me a Republican forever. But I might never actually vote Republican again.
