Nearly 100 people participated in a Stand Up With Me Domestic Violence Awareness Month rally, including representatives of law enforcement, college athletics, churches, organized labor and nonprofit organizations, as well as people who have been affected by domestic violence.

If you or someone you know faces domestic abuse, whether verbal, emotional or physical, offer to help or help find resources that can help.

Everyone deserves a life free of emotional and physical pain.

For those who missed a recent ruling regarding the McLean County Board finance committee and Auditor Michelle Anderson, the answer is no.

There is a difference between elected officials and those who are appointed to their jobs. Elected officials' salaries and job performances are clearly open to public discourse, because the public — the voters — determine whether those people hold the jobs they have.

... to the University High School marching band for its recent first-place finish in Class 1A and general effect at the State of Illinois Marching Band Championship. The band also earned second place in Class 3A at the Illinois Marching Band Championships, and first in the Class A division and three caption awards at the Bands of America St. Louis Super Regional Championship.

That's a lot of hardware to reflect the hard work and dedication of student musicians, dancers, and flag and rifle corps.

Extend a hand

... to help the poor with a Thanksgiving Day meal.

Home Sweet Home Ministries and Midwest Food Bank have started their annual drive, called Give Thanks, hoping to receive 2,000 to 2,500 turkeys and meal bags of side dishes by Nov. 17.

Last year, a record high 2,416 households consisting of 9,360 people were served.

Buy $15 turkey cards and $10 prepackaged meal bags at Hy-Vee in Bloomington or at either Schnucks location in Bloomington-Normal. In addition, people may deliver donated turkeys and bags of ingredients for traditional side dishes to the food bank or Home Sweet Home.
