March 7, 1918: Farmer Albert Thompson discovered the body of Patrick Killian, 43, in a cornfield about three miles west of town. Killian disappeared two months ago when he was staying at the Commercial Hotel. The coroner believes he died from exposure to the elements.
75 years ago
March 7, 1943: Spring is supposedly only two weeks away, but local residents were shoveling another four-inch snowfall from their walks and driveways. For W. B. Read & Co., spring can’t get here fast enough. For the first time in 45 years, Read’s has run out of sleds.

March 7, 1968: Francis Wessels, 53, died in a fire in his apartment at 718 W. Market St. Landlord John Pell discovered the blaze and called the fire department but it was too late. Firemen said the fire was caused by a cigarette.
25 years ago
March 7, 1993: Mayor Jesse Smart presented the key to the city to BHS students Donish Adkins, Nick Waterson and Jeff Bicknell. The three rescued a student from the bottom of the BHS pool. The near-drowning victim, Saheed Alliu, is recovering.
