Nov. 9, 1918: Marshal Foch of France has given Germany until 11 a.m. Monday to accept the Allied terms for peace. Meantime, Bloomington Mayor E.E. Jones has issued a proclamation that residents should set aside time at noon each day to pray for the troops and for peace.

Nov. 9, 1943: Lt. John Rinkenberger of Gridley is listed as missing in action after an air raid over Belgium. Meanwhile, Staff Sgt. Eugene Manahan of Saybrook has now been listed as killed in action. He had been on the missing list for a year.

Nov. 9, 1968: Clifford Waid, 63, was trapped in a corn bin for two hours after he went in to retrieve a shovel he had dropped. Police, firemen, Civil Defense and even a Commonwealth Edison crew worked to free him. When he was out, Waid had a cup of coffee and returned to work.
25 years ago
Nov. 9, 1993: An Indiana developer won approval to build an 88-unit apartment complex on Morris Avenue, just south of Butcher’s Lane. They want to build here because the market is good. Neighbors objected to the plan, citing fears of increased traffic and lower property values.
