The U.S. provides subpar care for immigrants by offering them ineffective medical care. Because of this, immigrants, human beings, are dead. A report by Human Rights Watch shows immigrants in detention centers died due to lack of medical care: “In all but one of the 15 deaths... our experts found evidence of subpar and dangerous practices including unreasonable delays, poor practitioner and nursing care, and botched emergency response.”
And sadly, headlines read “7-year old migrant taken into border control custody dies of dehydration, exhaustion.” The death of this innocent child and these innocent people were preventable and are the result of a cruel and unjust system. Their death shows the U.S.’s care for immigrants requires deep, systematic change.
People may argue against this, saying these immigrants shouldn’t have come to the U.S. and that this treatment is an effect of necessary policies to control immigration, but that’s no excuse for the preventable death of immigrants.
Immigrants who haven’t been tried or convicted should be considered innocent until proven guilty. Because of the injustice, action must happen today to stop a cruel and unjust system that has taken the lives of too many. This is the result of Trump’s policies. So please, consider this when casting your vote during the next election. If this subpar care is exposed, lives will be saved.
