On Nov. 29, the Bloomington-Normal community lost an advocate, a friend and a true man of God. Pastor Frank L. McSwain, Sr. was an awesome servant-leader who truly loved making a positive difference in the lives of many. Affectionately referred to as "Rev," he was able to transform the lives of innumerable individuals by living out the true essence of a godly man.
Rev. McSwain was the brainchild behind the Family Resource Center and he was an ally to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, as well as to many other advocacy groups. He often provided a voice for the disenfranchised, the ostracized and the down-trodden.
"Rev" was particularly fond of children, and children were fond of him. I vividly recall the children immediately flocking to "Rev" on Sundays after church service. He embraced them all with the love of Jesus. Rev. McSwain made all of the Mount Pisgah children feel like kings and queens, we shall never forget. A special appreciation to the entire McSwain family for sharing "Rev" with the world!
