In a county with a population of less than 200,000 people, having two entities in charge of elections makes little sense. If major savings can be achieved by having one entity in charge of elections, having two makes no sense at all.
After 45 years of involvement in local elections, I have never doubted the integrity of the McLean County Clerk's office when handling elections. Any glitches which have occurred have been routinely addressed and corrected.
It is time to consolidate the handling of elections in McLean County within the County Clerk's office. If we cannot effect this relatively simple government consolidation, then it seems to make little sense to attempt to discuss the many other intergovernmental issues which exist within our community.
