As we all know, the elections will be Nov. 6, and there is this crescendo of political speeches and campaign advertising happening every day. Exactly what happened Sept. 7 at Foellinger Auditorium in Urbana, where former President Barack Obama gave a political speech. Without a doubt, Obama has a gifted ability to attract crowds who fain his every word. However, I was puzzled with parts of his speech.
We all know Obama is a Democrat; however, as a former president he has not had the ability to unite all Americans around common causes. In regards to his frustration with our duly elected President Trump, Obama said, “It did not start with Donald Trump. He is a symptom, not the cause. He’s just capitalizing on resentments that politicians have been fanning for years.”
I concur that Obama said the absolute truth in that statement. My opinion is that the root cause of these resentments among us comes from the person looking back in the mirror of Barack Obama. As he gave his speech, I was really disappointed that he blasted Trump about capitalizing, yet Obama is the main person fanning these symptoms. That gave me a sad sensation. As many clergy have said, when you point a finger at someone else, there are three pointing right back at you. Obama speaks against Republicans. He should consider addressing the Democrat folks about their unjust attacks on our duly elected president, as he once was. God bless the USA.
