Illinois law requires both the state and its employees to pay into the state pension system. Employees have never been short a penny, but for over 100 years, the state has been falling way short. The result is the "pension crisis," so often blamed on employees by the very politicians that illegally diverted the money.
In his recent budget address, Gov. J.B. Pritzker proposed the state continue to contribute far less than required by law.
Watch out, Illinois! Illegally taking money from old people says something about character, and it's not good.
