St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital does so much for the children and families of Central Illinois. On Sept. 21, over 800 people raised money to support St. Jude’s efforts during the Fleet Feet “We Care Half Marathon and St. Jude Run/Walk” in Bloomington-Normal.
The work being done at St. Jude would not be possible without the donors and the money they raise for research, care, and treatment of pediatric cancer. However, there are others we want to thank because without them, this event and the funds it raised, would not be possible. These heroes are the men and women of the Bloomington and Normal Police Departments, Normal Fire Department/Paramedics, and the employees of both departments that helped in some other way.
Police officers who showed up early and stood in the rain to make sure traffic and runners were safe. The paramedics and emergency personnel in attendance ready to help in an accident or care for an injury makes everyone safe. The teams who set out the cones and redirected traffic make this even safer. These are tasks many take for granted, but we truly appreciate their support. A special thanks to these public servants.
Also important is our partnership with Connect Transit. A Connect driver arrived early to make sure all volunteers arrived at their posts and were ready to assist the runners.
Lastly, thank you to the donors who helped raise over $132,000 for St. Jude.
