On behalf of the John H. Kraus Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 454 and its auxiliary, we would like to thank the community for its support over the Memorial Day holiday.
Thank you to Bill Kemp for his presentation on May 23 on World War I at our post. It was most informative. The response to help place flags on veterans' graves was overwhelming on May 24. Many in the community helped in our annual Buddy Poppy Drive on May 26 at the farmer’s market and at local businesses.
On May 28, the turn out for the Memorial Day Parade was phenomenal. The units that participated appreciated those that stood and saluted the flag as it led the parade. We thank those that applauded, even though it is never necessary. The salute means more to us than anything; it means you remember our veterans.
As an organization that has been around since 1920, it is great to be part of a community that still believes that "We honor the dead by helping the living.” Thank you so much for what you did Bloomington-Normal.
