July 10, 1919: Coffee is selling at its highest price since the American Coffee Exchange opened in 1882. A local grocer says the Brazilian government has a monopoly on the market, and the market has been reopened to Germany, which is buying a lot of coffee after four years of having none.

July 10, 1944: Acting postmaster Carter Pietsch will be nominated for the job full time. He has been serving since postmaster William Fahey died in 1942. Pietsch is an attorney who acted as deputy receiver for 11 area banks as they went under during the Great Depression.
50 years ago
July 10, 1969: Police recaptured Herbert Crum in St. Louis. He and his wife broke away from a detail as they were being led from McLean County Court. She was caught, but Crum was thought to have stolen a car and headed south. Police recovered the car, too.
25 years ago
July 10, 1994: John McGlinn and Melissa Wochner were married at Holy Trinity Church. A reception followed at Bloomington Country Club. About 50 guests arrived via private jet: a 727 that picked them up in Reading, Pa., and flew them directly to Bloomington.
