Miller Park Zoo, Bloomington

Photos by Erin Woods

What happens when you combine a beautiful night with great local restaurants and breweries and invite 600 of your closest friends? And throw in an alligator or two. You’ve got Brews at the Zoo, a popular event that allows attendees to try local beers, nosh on tacos, gondolas and calzones and enjoy DJ Joe Palma who also performed live music.

Almost as popular as the local breweries was the new alligator exhibit, the first American alligators at the zoo in its 127-year history. The pair, a rare white male alligator and the typical green female, were huge crowd pleasers.

The event raised just over $14,000 which will be used towards the purchase of an x-ray machine for the zoo. The x-ray machine will help zookeepers provide accurate and timely treatment, reduce operating coast and assure exceptional animal care.
