Hands clapped, feet stomped and voices were raised up in song as the celebration of Juneteenth returned to Bloomington this weekend.

“It’s a celebration, it truly is, and we’re focusing on the blessings, on the contributions of people right here in this town,” said Willie Holton Halbert, who coordinated the event.

People young and old and of every race came through the Boys & Girls Club to join the celebration. Georgene Chissell, the volunteer coordinator for the event, said the Juneteenth Celebration is a chance to share the stories that make up African-American history.
