Tyler Rasmuson and Nick Janssen combined for 45 points as the Roanoke-Benson High School basketball team (5-1) improved to 2-0 in the Tri-County Conference with a 71-62 win at Peru St. Bede on Friday night.
Ben Hodel had 13 points and 11 rebounds and Rasmuson added five assists and four steals for the Rockets.
"It was a total team effort tonight," said Roanoke coach Matt Gordon. "We showed a great amount of poise and character.
"It was a hard-fought game but we stayed together."
The game was tied 19-all after one quarter but the Rockets outscored the hosts 19-11 in the second quarter. St. Bede got within 54-49 after three quarters before Roanoke pulled away.
Riverton 53, Mount Pulaski 48
Chris McDonnough scored 15 points to lead Mount Pulaski (4-4) but it wasn't enough as Riverton (3-0) beat the Hilltoppers at Riverton.
Chris Smith scored 12 points for Mount Pulaski.
Riverton took a first quarter lead of 14-7 before Mount Pulaski cut the deficit to 20-16 at halftime. The Hilltoppers trailed 34-31 going into the final quarter.
"We played a good game against a ranked team that has a 7-foot center," Mount Pulaski coach Jim Jumper said. " We held him to just four points in the first half and then he scored nine points in the third quarter which was the difference in the game."
Mike Tisdale scored 17 points for Riverton who is ranked 9th in Class A.
Plano 64, Dwight 52
Junior Curt Perschnick scored 16 points but it wasn't enough as Plano won at Dwight.
Evan Wyllie added 10 points for the Trojans.
Dwight led 14-13 after the first quarter before Plano took over to lead at halftime 28-23.
"Their quickness really hurt us. When we helped, they always found the open man and hit the shot. Give Plano credit, they did a really nice job offensively," said Dwight coach Mark Porter.
