NORMAL -- Hitting the jackpot with a former Central Arkansas pitcher last summer in Bobby Pritchett, the Normal CornBelters have signed another.
"Bobby asked us to take a look at a friend of his who throws pretty hard," Normal pitching coach Brooks Carey said of right-hander Jeremy Brewer. "He's got as good of an arm as anybody out here so he's going to get a chance."
The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Brewer brings the number of pitchers on Normal's spring training roster to 17. The Belters are likely to have 11 or 12 hurlers on their opening day roster.
"He drove from Texas to throw a bullpen for us. We may have found a hidden gem," Carey said. "He throws 90-plus (mph) with pretty good breaking stuff."
