AVON, Ohio — In a back-and-forth offensive affair, the Normal CornBelters dropped the opener of a three-game road trip, 12-8, to the Lake Erie Crushers at All Pro Freight Stadium. The loss is the fourth straight for the CornBelters.
Normal scored first on a Jeff Dunbar sacrifice fly before the Crushers countered in the second, taking a 2-1 lead.
In the CornBelters’ third, Frank Martinez extended his hitting streak to seven games with a single and scored on a double from Daniel Cox. The Crushers answered in the bottom of the inning on an Andrew Davis two-run homer for a 4-2 lead.
Lake Erie led 5-4 after five innings before Normal first baseman Steve Alexander tied the game with his fourth home run in the sixth.
After surrendering the lead in the sixth, Normal tied the game again in the eighth, 8-8, on back-to-back doubles before the Crushers scored four times in the bottom of the inning.
Ruben Flores improved to 2-0 with the win after getting the final four outs. Jeremy Brewer dropped to 0-2 with the loss.
