The Bloomington High School girls basketball team celebrated Senior Night Tuesday with a 3-point shooting display, connecting on 10 of 19 shots from behind the arc en route to a 60-53 nonconference win over LaSalle-Peru at the Robert Frank Sports Complex.
Senior Shelby Parker hit 5 of 7 shots from 3-point range and scored a game-high 20 points to lead BHS, which improved to 15-9 overall and completed a perfect 8-0 home slate. Parker also had four rebounds and three assists.
Cherelle Gay had 12 points for BHS on 4-of-5 shooting from behind the arc. Gay opened the game with three straight 3-pointers to stake BHS to a 9-0 lead it never relinquished. Junior Kristin Petrinec contributed a double-double for BHS, collecting 10 points and 17 rebounds. BHS built a 44-23 rebounding edge over LaSalle-Peru (9-15).
"I threw my seven seniors' names in a hat and drew out five kids to start," said BHS coach Sondra Vogel. "It was just a great win on Senior Night. They came out ready to play and they were very focused.
"I'm extremely proud of my seven seniors. Most of them have played for me since junior high so it was an emotional night for us."
Calvary 59, Danville Baptist 23
Shelby Koehl scored 13 points and Lizzi Howerton added 10 as Calvary Baptist rolled past Danville First Baptist at Danville.
Sarah McCorkle chipped in nine points and six assists for Calvary (14-7), which cruised after building a 24-0 first-quarter lead. Ashton Kamphuis led the Crusaders with six rebounds and Alisha Strong had five steals.
Ashley Arnold scored 10 points to lead Danville Baptist.
