CHICAGO - Katie Blonn dominated inside while Heidi Harnisch shot well from beyond the arc Saturday to lead the Illinois Wesleyan women's basketball team past North Park, 63-49, in College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin action.
Blonn scored 22 points on 9 of 12 shooting from the field and Harnisch sank 4 of 8 from 3-point range on her way to 15 points in the Titans' regular-season finale. Blonn and Harnisch led IWU in rebounds with five each and Harnisch also had six assists.
"Katie missed her first three shots and didn't miss the rest of the game," IWU coach Mia Smith said. "Three of those baskets were 10- to 12-foot jumpers.
"Heidi missed her first couple too and then she got on a roll. I thought they defended Heidi really well at the beginning of the game. She went down in the first half with an ankle injury, but she got taped up and got back in the game."
IWU (18-7, 10-4) also got a lift from sophomore Tasha Gaston-Bell of Bloomington. She was 2 of 2 from 3-point range and 3 of 3 from the field overall while scoring a season-high nine points.
"She hit a big 3 early in the game to get us going when it was close," Smith said. "She also handled the ball really well. We knew she would get more minutes today because of Mallory Heydorn's stress fracture. But she was doing a great job so her minutes got to be even more important."
Laura Mount scored 19 points to lead North Park (13-12, 8-6).
IWU will play Friday in the CCIW Tournament, with the time and opponent yet to be determined.
