B-N Gold win both games of opening doubleheader
The Bloomington-Normal Baseball Association Gold handled the Ottawa Chiefs in a season-opening doubleheader, 8-2 and 11-1, Tuesday at Horenberger Field.
Zach Watkins pitched six innings and struck out nine to gain the victory in the first game. Harold Riggins led the Gold offense with two hits and two RBI.
Brad Jahnke was the winning pitcher in the second game, which was halted in the fifth inning because of the 10-run rule. Nick Bowles contributed two hits and two RBI for the Gold, while Cody Gilles and Tyler Cook had two hits each.
Scrappers tip Lexington
Taylor Springer had two doubles among his three hits and Kyle Koerner added two hits as the Bloomington Scrappers defeated Lexington, 7-1, in Eastern Illinois League baseball action at Downs.
The Scrappers improved to 2-1. Brett Moore had two hits for Lexington (3-3).
